Emma and Spencer Gayle were devastated when doctors told them they would never be parents.

The heartbroken couple were determined to continue planning their wedding – and then just two days before their big day, a miracle happened.

Emma, from Whistable in Kent, explained: “We were told it was extremely unlikely that we would ever have children and it was gutting at the time.

“The two days before we were due to get married, Spencer had to take me to hospital and I was told I was two months pregnant.”

Since their first baby, eldest son, Oliver, now 20, the couple have had another NINE babies – although they admit this was not always the plan.

Spencer said: “We never planned to have a big family, it just happened naturally.”

In addition to Oliver, who now lives in Ibiza, Emma and Spencer have Emily, 19, Charlie, 17, Daisy, Teddy, Freddie, Sydney, Noah, Eli and baby Isaac.

The gigantic family live in a five-bedroom house and 5Star’s Me and My 10 Kids: Mega Families looks at what life is like for Emma, Spencer and their huge brood.

Devoted mum Emma not only cares for her massive family, she, along with dad Spencer, holds down a job.

And to make matters even more complicated, she’s agreed to get up at 5am so she can cater a christening with 75 guests – from scratch.

But Emma insists the trick to a happy house when you have so many children is teamwork.

She explains: “Daisy and Freddie help a lot and being in a big family makes you realise that you all have to pull together. We always have to work as a team.”

After Emma has made her massive buffet, which includes baking her own vol au vents, it’s time to get everyone ready.

And the Gayle family have a very special tradition – they always wear matching outfits.

Emma said: “We don’t get invited to many christenings or weddings so it’s always really special.

“For me, having everyone in matching outfits is a family tradition, but it can be very challenging to find the same outfits in so many sizes.”

When the family’s day out is over, it’s time to get everyone fed and ready for bed – and this is when team work is key.

Mini-mum Daisy helps get the little ones into their PJs and into bed while Freddie helps his mum and dad with the mammoth task of cleaning up after the family.

Then it’s time for Emma to kiss her husband and children goodbye and head to her night shift.
